JONES RICHARD "DICK" of Austin, Texas, formerly of Southfield, passed away peacefully on March 28th. Dick was born in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from West High School in 1941. He attended Ohio State University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army with the 21st Tank Destroyer Group. After his service, he returned to OSU where he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He received a Masters of Art degree from Columbia University in 1949 and was granted a John Hay fellowship at the University of California, Berkley from 1961 to 1962. Dick taught art in the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan public schools until 1951 and then at Dearborn public schools and Henry Ford Community College until 1979. He was also a practicing artist in oil painting and sculpture with shows in Berkley, California; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan and Austin, Texas. While in Detroit, Dick served as Vice President and President of the OSU Alumni Club. He is survived by sons Barry and Christopher, their wives, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn, and brother Ronald. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1st at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Richard Jones memorial library fund at the Heartland Healthcare Center Austin, 11406 Rustic Rock, Austin, TX 78750.

Mr. Jones, You saved my life in my senior year when I almost was flunking out of high school. Best art teacher, will always remember you with admiration. John McKinlay.
