Our high school principal, Leonard Herman Mazur, born April 30, 1926 went to be with his Lord on November 17, 2022. Preceded in death by his lovely wife Lorraine Ann (Wojcik) Mazur, son Karl Paul Mazur, sisters Ginney Manzagol and Irene Karr, parents and many other loved ones. Leonard leaves behind three children: Mark, Roni Ann and Karen Mazur in addition to six grandchildren: Brandon (Emily), Matthew, Katie (Michael), Lauren (Josh), Luke, Grant (Crystal) as well as seven great-grandchildren: Elijah, Finley, Magnolia, Adalyn, Daxton, Melah and Collin.
Deep heartfelt gratitude and appreciation is extended to Hazel and Destiny, who selflessly gave of their time and patience while taking care of Leonard in his last few years of life.
He would say "call me Len" and smile. A World War II Marine Veteran, Len worked for 31 years in the public school system including his longest term as principal with Dearborn High School. He made many friends along the way and his life was, as he called it - "truly fulfilling". During retirement you could find Len traveling, golfing, gardening, reading and spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska and beach life in Alabama for many years. He became a regular face in Lovells Michigan near the Au Sable River where he mastered the art of fly fishing and called it his second home since age 13.
Len Mazur was profound in his writing, common sense in his thinking and gracious in his living. He often spoke of his inevitable time after his death and asked that others do not mourn him, rather celebrate how blessed he was for 96 years. He reminds us all "time rolls on like a river to the sea..."
The family simply asks for your prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Len's honor are respectfully appreciated to Trout Unlimited to support their restorative work on Michigan rivers.
A memorial gathering for Leonard will be held Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A memorial mass will occur Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsis Church, 13540 Gould St, Dearborn, Michigan.
