In Memory

Mark Hofmeister

Our classmate, Mark David Hofmeister, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Brighton, Michigan on Friday, May 17, 2014 surrounded by loved ones.  He was born April 7, 1953 in Dearborn and was a graduate of Dearborn High, class of 71.  He worked for the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press in the pressroom for 30 years.  He was a paper man through and through.  Having a cup of coffee and reading the paper was a daily necessity.  Mark was a humble man.  His greatest pleasures in life were hockey (playing ad refereeing), riding motorcycles, boating, listening to music, Michigan Football, and loving “his girls.”  He will be remembered for the quiet way he lived and loved.  He was, without a doubt, a man that showed up for you in any way that he could.  He didn’t live big, yet his loss leaves a giant hole in the lives of his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marion Hofmeister and his in-laws Raymond and Gertrude Kendell.  He is survived by his beautiful wife of 52 years Marcia, his daughters Jennifer and Jacqueline, son-in-law Michael, his grandchildren Natalie, Jackson, Hank, and Christian, his siblings Glen (Kathy), Paul (Martha), Tim (Cheryl), Marty (Sandi), Karen, Renee, John (Liz), many nieces and nephews, and his Baetcke Lake family.

Service will be on Friday, May 31st, from 2:00 to 3:00 at Keehn-Griffin Funeral Home in Brighton, MI.  A celebration of life to follow at Brewery Becker from 3:00 to 6:00.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.

So saddened to hear of Mark's passing. Although we were never close, we knew each other through junior high and high school. I remember him as a genuinely kind person, a good guy. Prayers to his family.  RIP Mark.

So sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Super nice guy.

I had not been in touch with him since 1980 when I recruited him to be on my softball team, sponsored by Kates Coney Island (formerly Herbert's Hamburgers).

We had a ragtag bunch of miscreants and malcontents - excepting Mark of course - featuring the likes of Joe Lowry, Chris Ryan, Mike Jann, Louie Roosevelt, Phil Volante, Dennis Campian, Scott Ryder, Bob Ramirez, & others.

Mark was lanky, athletic, & speedy.

Such good times. I'm glad to have known him.
