One of my favorite classes was machine shop. I knew I was never going to have a job as a machinist but using power tools to turn lumps of metal into functional objects was a delight. My father had a lathe and an Interest in car restoration and I was able to make a bunch of parts, in class, to help. Mr. Kurczynski gladly gave me free reign.

Now approaching 70, I have access to an amazing shop and use the fundamental principles Leon hammered in. It's all fun jobs, no pressure but I can still do drafting with a pencil, ruler and eraser just like he taught. Kids who only know CAD work are puzzled by my hand drawn parts perspectives.  Skills in lathe and milling operations learned at DHS are still an asset.

My fondest memory was the rare occasions when Leon brought in kielbasa his mom would make and share with us. Never have had it anywhere since as good.  Thank you sir for all your help! Rest In Peace.
